Anna’s Wedding

•July 15, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I travelled to Melbourne to attend my old friend Anna’s wedding on May 12. It was a beautiful occasion, as expected. Anna and Adam were married in Sts Peters & Pauls Church, South Melbourne, by ‘celebrity’ Catholic priest, Father Bob Maguire. See some pics of the outside of the church I took on my mobile phone in the fading evening light. Pretty good I think. Father Bob was great too. Amusing, funny, and kept us all entertained – esp. as the bridal party was delayed!

Following the ceremony, some of Anna’s family friends took me under their wing and we headed to the pub for a beer, before heading off to the reception at this glorious estate nestled in the inner east of Melbourne. Old Roman style pool and amazing lighting for pre-dinner drinks, a great dinner, entertaining speeches – it was a great night! Having not seen Anna in a while, or got to know her new husband all that well, it was very enlightening.

Then came the post-reception. Oh my goodness. It started with the ‘Wedding Bus’ back to St Kilda and then we took over this funky little bar under the street. Lots of drinks and some deep conversations ensued. At one point I got to have a really good chat with Anna, thinking back over our 10 year friendship. Great moment :)

They kicked us out eventually, and we went upstairs to Anna and Adam’s wedding pad (dont’ ask me why they invited us!) to drink more and watch rage. As people started passing out, I caught a cab back to my hotel. I think it was about 5am as i drifted to sleep. Needless to say, I was a very fragile mess the following day!

Anzac Day Adventures

•May 3, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Tam and I got up early on Anzac Day and joined the many other thousands of people at the Australian War Memorial for the Anzac Dawn Service. They had cool fake electric powered candles.

After that finished, just as daylight was beginning to break, we went to Idelic in Kingston for breakfast and newspaper reading. Mmmmm. Was divine as always!

Shuffled off then to the airport for more coffee and a flight to Melbourne.

Checked in at my Melbourne local – James Squire Brewhouse on Russell Street (corner Little Collins) – for beers and lunch and then went to the MCG to watch Essendon(my team) play Collingwood(Tam’s team) in the AFL. The Anzac Day game is always between these two sides and it’s a huge blockbuster. We were 2 of 90 508 at the game!!!! Talk about madness.

Here are some pics.

Sadly for me, but excitingly for Tam, Collingwood got up by 17 points. Tam is now 2 from 2 seeing Collingwood play live, and I am 1 from 2 seeing the Bombers at the MCG.

My Nan Turns 90!

Tam and I went to my nan’s 90th birthday party back in March, but her actual birthday was on 5 April (another Aries in the family :P ).

In celebration, all of her children (my mum, aunts and uncles – all 10 of them!) got together in Clifton. Sadly we couldn’t be there too.

I understand there were also lots of the grand children and great grandchildren about also!

See below for a picture of my nan with her newest great grandchild – Kaylie (daughter of my cousin Kristy) – and also of her with her 10 kids!

Nathan & Kate Get Married

Tam and I travelled up to Gosfordon Saturday 10 March to attend the wedding of our wonderful friends, Nathan and Kate.

It was a great ceremony and a wonderful night. Nathans Dad stole the show with the speeches. I think Tam and I would both rate it as the best parental wedding speech we have had the pleasure of enjoying – and we’ve been to quite a few weddings now!

It was also a great opportunity to explore Gosford. Neither of us have really been there before. While Gosford itself was ok, Terrigal was AWESOME. Nath and Kate had this great apartment that looked down over the beaches and ocean. Wow. We might have to go back there!

A couple of pics below. Nath and Kate had their wedding outfits made in Vietnam from Thai Silk! I love Nath’s ‘Disco Inferno’ look :P

Tonight Tam and I are hosting a dinner party with four of our friends – Amber, Dave, Tom and Sophie.

Tam and I are really looking forward to it – we haven’t really seen these guys all year yet! Should be good times and good wine :)

Our resident Iron Chef Calwell – Tam – is whipping up some vegetarian delights, including her new awesome mushroom entree featuring gruyere cheese. Mmmm.

Canberra Long Weekend Escape

•March 13, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Like any good Canberrans, Tam and I are leaving here for the long weekend (in honour of Canberra Day!). Actually, I think this is the first time we have left Canberra for this long weekend since we moved here … so one from four! Maybe we really are becoming locals!

Our destination for the weekend is South East Qld – back to my home, and Tam’s stomping ground for at least the previous 10 years before we moved to Canberra.

Saturday will have us attending my Nan’s 90th birthday celebrations up on the Sunshine Coast!

On Sunday evening we are rounding up many of our Brisbane based friends for dinner at one of our favourite Brissie restaurants, Pane e Vino. Should be a hoot.

Then we shoot back to Canberra on Monday afternoon in time to do stuff and prepare for going back to work on Tuesday.

Pictures should follow and a wrap up of the weekend.

This is the first post to kind of get us going. While Tam and I have had many adventures in the past, we probably won’t be delving in to the backlog! So mostly, its adventures from here on out.

Perhaps starting with Nathan & Kate’s wedding on the weekend. Tam has pics. She takes great pics!
